Well that was fairly exciting.
Got home from further confusion on Monday with my stomach feeling a bit hurty, so figured that I had gotten something that disagreed with me.
Got through work on Tuesday about the same, stomach feeling not so good and food going down a bit hard, but pain level not really even at the point of bad gas. Took a laxative and some gas-x at different points to see if I could improve things.
Wednesday at work was a bit more sucky, as the food I ate just seemed to sit in my stomach for hour and hours (didn't end up eating my lunch sandwich at all).
Next morning I waffled a bit, but decided to go in to the doctors office.
He did a bit of poking, took some blood, and sent me to get an x-ray as nothing was really conclusive. Bloodwork had my white blood cell count raised and x-ray showed some sort of accretion in the same area as my appendix. Still not conclusive at all, so he sent me over to a different hospital to get a cat scan.
Picked up Timber and Rik along the way to the hospital, finally got into the cat scan after a wait, and then was very quickly whisked into surgery. Apparently there was a 1.3cm (yes, cm) stone blocking my appendix. Surgery was predicted to be a half hour to an hour, but went about 2 hours as my appendix had already started leaking pus.
So wow, I am genuinely glad that I went to the doctor. Another couple days and it likely would have been MUCH more serious, possibly even fatal, and likely involving a couple weeks in the hospital rather than just one night of observation.
They did the surgery with laproscopic instruments, so all I have is 3 small holes that likely wont scar much and seem to be recovering fairly well. Am a bit doped up on pain medication, but doing well. As part of the laproscopic procedure, they have to inflate you like a balloon to give some space to work, so will be a little while before the last of the air re-absorbs. At the moment I have a very musical insides.
