That was weird.  Felt really tired and funky all day yesterday, took a nap at 6pm and slept 12-13 hours.  So much for halloween parties.... : b

F*$&ing awsome.  Combines some of the best elements of story and setting from Blackhawk down, enemy mine, and ET in a way that flows naturally and realistically.  You can see just how governmental incompetance and human greed could lead to just such a world and situation that the characters play their parts within.  Has some very deep emotional undertones that are food for deep thought.

I have a room that is opening up soon and would love to find someone cool to come join my household.

Rent is $350, Utilities about $70 a month for everything and we are fairly close to the 75 bus line in SE portland.

Your result for The Steampunk Archetype Test...

The Swashbuckling Engineer

45 Swashbuckling Engineer, 38 Crazy Clockwork Tinkerer, 7 Charming Noble, 17 Roguish Pirate, 31 Mechanical Fian and 42 Aetherist Bodger!

You see machines in a different way than everyone else. To you the cause and effect of gearwork is intuitive. You use this knowledge to great skill and are often improving or steamlining your equipment in mid-action, because you enjoy the action just as much as you enjoy the machines. A machine is worthless unless it is put to good use. And if you don’t have a machine available to do the job you want it to do, with the right tools you will build one. And if you don’t have the right tools, you will make those too. Many an innocent has been saved by your daring deeds.

Your result for Reincarnation Placement Exam...

Spy

58% Intrigue, 63% Civilization, 66% Humanity, 41% Urbanization.

Live well, ride fast, and die young, baby!

Well, you turned out to be something of a rogue. This may not be exactly the life you wanted... but it's difficult to place people who want to enjoy all the romance and intrigue of civilization, without actually having a demanding job. Besides, since you enjoy the benefits of humanity so much more than you enjoy the press of humanity itself... you shouldn't have much trouble with your role in life. As long as you aren't afraid of danger there's a place for you in society, even if it's a rather dark and wicked place. Your mission, if you choose to accept it, is to fulfill the role of a spy.

The good news: You're free and clever, and you can do whatever the heck you want. The bad news: everybody else is free and clever too, and they're not all on your side.

With the flick of a blade, you can change the course of history. Might be fun. Might be a little messy.

I am moved down to Veneta, OR until the 13th or so, living out at the Oregon County Fair site.  It is great to be home again with my (very) extended family.  I love this place and am very much looking forward to the fair itself.

*sigh*

I really really hate this season.  I have so many emotions trained into it from years of emotionally angst ridden family Christmases that the feelings still well up around this time of year for me.

I doesn't help that I think I am going to eating Christmas dinner at a Denny's or similar alone as all of the people that I would really like to be with are far away or already busy with their own families.

And I get to work tommorow, outdoors, in the rain, on Christmas eve.  For which I won't be getting overtime.

Erf.

*emo moment over, back to the regularly scheduled coyote.....*

Heard this on the radio today.

Oregon may have a wild breeding pair of wolves up in the NE corner of the state.  (Or they could just be buddies).

So I figure that I should mention my new job, seeing as how I have been working for over a month and haven't quite, been fired, been laid off, or caught on fire... (OK, the last hasn't ever happened.... yet)

I am now an official hoser. I am working for a small (2 trucks) heating oil company, running around Portland all day in a 32,000# truck filling home heating oil tanks.

Did you know that home heating oil is off road diesel? I didn't. Feels kinda weird, like I am fueling the city or something.

I am getting a LOT of excercise. The truck carries 2800 gallons of oil and I am typically emptying it every day, with somewhere between 8 to 15 stops.

At each stop I get to pull out up to 150' of 3" fuel hose with a 10# nozzle on it and walk back and forth to the truck about 4-6 times from the nozzle to the truck for each stop. (Go find the oil fill pipe and measure how much oil is in the tank, go back to truck, drag hose to pipe, go back to truck, set meter and turn on the pump, go back to nozzle and monitor it until the meter runs off, go back to truck, control lever to put last half gallon down the hose and turn off the pumps, go back to nozzle, pull nozzle and seal up tank, drag nozzle end back to truck and reel in the rest of the hose with the power reel, and then walk back to the house with the reciept, and finally back to the truck so I can go on to the next stop).

I am pretty sure that I have lost a decent bit of weight. Most of my jeans have a LOT of extra room and I just did a 4 mile bike ride without feeling out of breath or exhausted (after working a full day).

Only down side is the wages aren't great (though the huge amount of overtime I am getting helps make up for it) and the lack of health insurance (which REALLY sucks). The job also has about 3 months of layoff in mid summer, which would be a very bad thing if I had a family to support, but may turn out to be an unemployement insurance funded 3 month summer vacation for me if I can work it right.

There is a certain pirate ship that I would LOVE to volunteer crew on for a month or so.....

It's pretty weird. I have just today realized that I am working for what is effectively a legalized car theft ring. Not only legalized, but backed up by the police if necessary.

If you leave your valuable piece of property (a car) in the wrong place, it gets stolen (towed). The only way to get it back is to pay a ransom (the impound fee) that can be fairly harsh (at least $200). If you choose not to pay the ransom than it sits for 30 days, becomes legal property of the tow company and gets fenced (either sold directly off the lot to another person or to a car crusher company as scrap).

Most of the "theft" occurs in the middle of the night when people are least likely to notice it happening. Even if it gets noticed, the company resorts to extortion (pay $105 right now or I continue towing).

I definitely have moral qualms about PPI (person property impound) towing. It makes me glad that for the most part I will be doing commercial and heavy towing (people who have broken down or who are paying to have a vehicle moved).

On one hand, the people that are having their cars towed have done something dumb (parked it in the wrong place), but on the other hand all it takes is a moments in-attention and you can lose your car if you don't have the $200+ dollars to pay to get it back.

Erf.

I think that eventually I will want change companies to one that does just commercial towing, or commercial and police towing as I would love to learn how to do accident recovery work.

Other than the moral qualms, old equipment, a few very seedy people, and some really messed up office politics games that are going on (I am starting to wonder if there will be a company in six months) the job is going well. I am getting to drive some pretty nifty equipment and am learning a lot about how tow around vehicles (including very large ones).
